Under 17 teams in the West African sub-region begins on Wednesday
The zonal football competition of the Under 17 teams in the West African sub-region begins on Wednesday.
Nigeria’s Under 17 team, the Golden Eaglets, are participating in the competition which has Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana as competitors.
The Golden Eaglets will play its first game against Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday in Group B, and thereafter square against their Ghanaian counterpart in their last group match.
The two top teams from Group A and Group B will qualify for the semi-finals, while two finalists automatically pick the CAF Under 17 African Nations Cup ticket.
Head Coach of Nigeria’s Under 17 national team, Fatai Amoo, said winning the first match against Ivory Coast was of top priority.
The Golden Eaglets are five time World champion of the tournament.
The World Football governing body, FIFA, has cancelled the 2021 FIFA Under 17 World Cup due to COVID 19.
Nigeria is the defending champion after defeating Ghana in the final of the tournament in 2018.
