The Member representing Ndokwa/Ukwani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Nicholas Ossai has raised the alarm over the flood devastating ninety percent of communities in Ndokwa East Local Government Area.
In a motion raised at the plenary on Wednesday, Hon Ossai called on the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs to quickly intervene in the crisis.
Speaking with Newsmen at the end of plenary, the Lawmaker said that for the past two weeks, Ndokwa East Communities of Delta State have been bedeviled by constant heavy downpour, accompanied by excessive flooding and erosion which according to the Lawmaker is presently wreaking havoc in the Communities.
He added that schools, farmlands, health Centers and places of worship have been seriously affected, stressing that over One Hundred and Fifty thousand (150,000) households have been rendered homeless with Women and Children requiring urgent help.
The lawmaker urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently provide relief materials for the victims in accordance to the NEMA Act.
He also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the Ecological Fund office to conduct an environmental survey of Ndokwa riverine communities with a view to addressing the excessive flooding in these areas.
