Opportunity for Nigeria, others to meet over adaptation finance – Yobe Environment.


The Yobe State Commissioner of Environment, Hon. Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa has expressed hope that Nigeria and other developing countries will receive support to implement their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) in response to climate change.

Speaking to The Authority at the ongoing UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, Hon Karasuwa said that the different parts of the country have been affected by climate change.

He said Nigeria has taken the right approach towards the issue.

He commended the government’s move   towards use of electronic cars in the country.

Hon. Karasuwa said Nigeria and other developing countries will use the COP26 to meet with developed countries over their promise to mobilize USD100 billion annually in climate finance to support the needs of developing nations.
 The Commissioner stated that Long-term finance is a key pillar of the Paris Agreement and crucial to the state’s bid to tackle the climate crisis.

He said Yobe State has taken various steps in fighting climate change, which includes tree planting campaign in the state.

“Governor Mai Mala Buni is working assidously to ensure Environmental issues receive attention. His Excellency is determined to ensure that the adverse effects of climate change on our people is drastically reduce.

“Our Climate change Program launched by the Governor is not a joke. We are determined to turn it around and even use it to create economic opportunities for our people,” Karasuwa said…
