A six man Executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS, Warri Chapel for the next three years has been elected.

Comrade Sonia Unobunjo was re-elected as Chairman in the peaceful election.

DRTV News Correspondent, Ifeanyi Onyejeke, reports that Chairman of the NUJ Delta State Council, Comrade Mike Ikeogwu who observed the conduct of the election called on the NUJ DBS Warri newly elected executives to prioritise the welfare of its members.

The Sonia Unobunjo led executive of the NUJ DBS, Warri Chapel which had piloted affairs of the Union in the last three years were dissolved by the DBS Warri Credentials Committee under the watchful eyes of members of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

Chairman of the DBS Warri Credentials Committee, Comrade Patrick Edema, while briefing members of the NUJ Delta State Council on activities of the Committee, said the Committee followed due process in screening members vying for the different positions in the NUJ DBS Warri Chapel, noting that only one out of the seven aspirants did not meet the requirement.

Comrade Edema said the Credentials Committee under his watch made some innovations such as presentation of certificate of Return to those elected noting that the certificates is a proof that the election was conducted and to conform to modern trends in elections.

Some members of the Sonia Unobunjo led executives were thereafter returned unopposed excluding the Auditor, who contested for the first time.

Addressing the newly elected NUJ DBS Warri Executives, Chairman of the Delta State NUJ Council, Comrade Mike Ikeogwu, represented by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Salvation Ogono, described the election as laudable as it was peaceful.

Comrade Ikeogwu commended the DBS Warri Credentials Committee for the Introduction of Certificate of Return and promised to continue to support the Chapel.                                   

In her acceptance speech, the re-elected NUJ DBS Warri Chapel Chairman, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo pledged their preparedness to surpass their achievements of the first tenure and called for the support of the members.

Other members of the new NUJ DBS Warri Chapel executives are Comrade Joshua Okpanefe, as Vice Chairman, Comrade John Glover, Secretary, Comrade Albert Asheshe, Assistant Secretary, Comrade Ogheneruona Oyibo, Financial Secretary, and Comrade Tune Bazunu as Auditor.
