Nigeria’s Under 17 Male Football Team, the Golden Eaglets, were handed an unexpected lifeline to qualify for the 2021 Under-17 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, following Ivory Coast’s win over Ghana in the WAFU Zone B Under-17 qualifiers on Tuesday.

The Baby Elephants of Ivory Cost defeated the Black Starlets of Ghana 3-1 at the State Municipal, Lome Togo, leaving them top of the group with maximum 6 points for their two games in Group B.

Nigeria and bitter rivals, Ghana, finished on one point each, but the Golden Eaglets go through to the semi-finals, thanks to their better goals difference.

The Fatai Amoo-led Golden Eaglets will next face Burkina Faso, winners of Group A, on Friday hoping to clinch a final spot and qualification to the 2021 Under-17 AFCON, holding in Morocco later this year.
