The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC has accused India and China for bringing fake drugs to Nigeria.
NAFDAC said these countries are responsible for seventy percent of the drugs used in the country.
The Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye in a statement at a programme in Abuja, as part of activities to make the 60th Independence anniversary said the agency is safeguarding the health of Nigeria by making sure that all regulated products that NAFDAC is in charge of, have the expected quality.
Prof Adeyeye further said the Agency visited many laboratories across China and India and had given them the criteria that they should meet before they can be chosen as laboratories that can be analyzing products that will come to Nigeria.
Meanwhile, one of the Agency Staff has developed a software to help in tracking and monitoring of ships on the high sea and the software has assisted in apprehending defaulting importers of falsified medicines at the point of entry.
