The Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency, MMDA, has presented its 2021 budget before the House Committee on Science and Technology.

The Agency presented the budget of over 1billion naira before the Hon Beni Lar led Committee.

The Agency said that 39 projects were proposed in the 2021 budget.

The Director General of NMDA, Mr. Etatuvie Oghene while speaking on the activities of his Agency explained that

NMDA was currently conducting research on cancer, Glaucoma, Malaria, Arthritis control among others, with attention on the vector and not the disease.

The Committee while receiving the budget expressed worries over the recruitment process of the Agency, saying that the law of Federal Character be duly followed.

In his response, the DG said some applicants are unwilling to take up new jobs and relocate to a region different from their own.

This according to him, the development has deterred the Agency from adhering to the Federal Character Act.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology has decided to step down the budget 2021 hearing and defence of some Agencies due to their inability to provide the Committee with information on the 2020 Budget implementation.
