MINISTER OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS, DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT CONFIRMS 36 STATES GOVERNORS AND FCT TO HAVE RECEIVED COVID-19 PALLIATIVES EXCEPT RIVERS STATE
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouk says all the 36 State Governors including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT except Rivers State received COVID-19 palliatives.
The Minister disclosed this at her budget defence with the House of Representatives Committee on Humanitarian Affairs in Abuja.
The Minister said Rivers State could collect its share of the palliatives anytime it wished.
Farouk further maintained that her Ministry did not receive any other funds or donations from anyone or Organization within or outside Nigeria except a budgetary allocation of N551,416,000.00.
Asked whether she also handed out cash to vulnerable Nigerians during the Covid-19 lockdown, the minister said no such cash was shared.
The Minister however quickly explained that the cash transfer that she did was an already existing programme under the NSIP given to poor and vulnerable households across the country.
Farouk said the cash had nothing to do with COVID-19 except that the President directed that it should be given in advance two months earlier than expected.
Speaking on the 2020 budget implementation, the Minister said that the sum of four billion naira was allocated to the Ministry in the 2020 Appropriation but was later revised downward to three point one two five billion naira representing a reduction of 22.54%. Similarly, the Ministry was also allocated the sum of N551,416,000.00 for Covid-19 interventions as contained in the 2020 Appropriation (Repeal and Enactment) Act. On the breakdown of the 2021 budget proposals of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Farouk said a total sum of four point zero three eight billion naira earmarked.
