The National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Abubakar Nahuche has resigned from his role on Monday, November 9, 2020.
The INEC’s Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okiye, said Nahuche resigned due to personal reasons, and his resignation had been accepted by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The report adds that Nahuche’s resignation was announced just after five other National Commissioners left the Electoral Commission after the expiration of their terms.
INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, also stepped aside and handed over the affairs of the Commission to the National Commissioner in charge of the Commission’s Tender Board Committee, Retired Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Mui azu.
His exit from the role is only temporary until the Nigerian Senate confirms his reappointment for a second five year term as Head of the Electoral Commission.
