The Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has implored officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces to be humane in the discharge of their official responsibilities.
Governor Okowa gave the advice on Tuesday while flagging off the Nigerian Army’s Operation Crocodile Smile six at the Army Super Camp located at Kilometre 11, Asaba Benin Expressway, Asaba.
Government House Correspondent, Marian Nweke, reports that the Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, said that the advice become imperative because the people were more conscious of their rights and how they want to be secured.
According to Governor Okowa, officials of security agencies should not abuse the position given to them by trampling on the rights of other citizens in the society.
He lauded the Nigerian Army, especially the 63 Brigade, Asaba, for the event, disclosing that the exercise “Operation Crocodile Smile six was necessary to strengthen the bond between the Nigerian Army and the society.
The 63 Brigade Commander of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ibrahim Jallo who said that the exercise which was an annual event that would dovetail into promoting sustainable peace and unity, stressing that it was for the entire state.
He disclosed that the Operation Crocodile Smile six was very unique, as it has provided a veritable platform to exhibit the cordial relationship between the Nigerian Army and other sister security agencies in the state which, he said, was quite commendable.
Highlight of the ceremony was the official flag-off of the exercise by Governor Okowa shortly after being conducted round various facilities at the Super Camp Brigadier General Jallo.
