Delta State Government Proposal to Upgrade three Existing Higher Institutions in The State

The three existing higher institutions which the State government wants to upgrade are College of Education Agbor, Anwai Campus of Delta State University, and Delta State Polytechnic Ozoro.

The College of Education Agbor, is to be upgraded to Delta State University of Education, Agbor, Anwai Campus of Delta State University to Delta State University of Science and Agriculture, Anwai and Delta State Polytechnic Ozoro, to Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro.

The State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa said the recognitions and approvals of the National Universities Commission, NUC for the upgrades was imperative, disclosing that the required strategic documents, including volumes one and two of the academic brief and the Master Plan for the institutions have been forwarded to NUC.

He told the State Legislators that an essential requirement for the approval of the proposed upgrades is the authorization of the House for the Delta State Government to go ahead with the planned upgrades of the three existing tertiary institutions to the status of universities.

The Governor said in pursuant of the objective for the establishment of the aforementioned institutions and to make comprehensive provisions for due management and administration and other matters connected there with, he was forwarding draft bills for consideration and passage by the House.

The draft bills include the Delta State University of Education, Agbor, Establishment Bill, the Delta State University of Science and Agriculture, Anwai-Asaba Establishment Bill and the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro Establishment Bill.
