Home Secretary, Priti Patel, says the government is considering building an asylum processing centre on a remote territory in the Atlantic Ocean in the United Kingdom.
The Ascension Island, which is more than 4,000 miles from the United Kingdom, was suggested as the location.
Priti Patel asked officials to look at asylum policies which had been successful in other countries.
The Foreign Office had carried out an assessment for Ascension, which included the practicalities of transferring migrants thousands of miles to the Island.
A source at the Home Office, however said Ministers were looking at every option that can stop the small boats crossing and also fix the asylum system.
