Since the presentation of the 2021 Draft Appropriation bill to the joint session of the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday 8th of October Nigerians have continued to comment on the budget proposal.
Hon Ben Igbakpa member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency who spoke with newsmen shortly after the exercise said President Muhammadu Buhari has helped the National Assembly stick to the January to December budget circle.
The lawmaker noted is a key promise made by the 9th Assembly to Nigerians.
Hon Igbakpa explained that in fulfilment of section 81 of the 1999 constitution as amended the budget is now before the National Assembly and must not be 100 percent implemented.
The lawmaker however highlighted some areas of concern in the budget to include debt servicing, loan and funds allocated to the power sector has been unbundled with a lot of them now private sector driven.
On oversight functions which President Buhari told the lawmakers to focus on revenue generation and expenditure.
Hon Igbakpa disclosed that discrepancies were discovered in some government agencies with report of the probe by the house this year yet to be released.
Hon Ben Igbakpa stated that the release of 50 percent of capital expenditure for the 2020 Budget by the executive was commendable but wondered if the MDAS have lived up to their biddings.
The Federal lawmaker called on those saddled with responsibilities to brace up instead of putting the blame on COVID-19 which is being managed like other ailments.
