The Lawmaker, Hon Festus Okoh stated that proactive steps were taken to shore up productivity and propel the state economy on the part of growth and recovery.

He said the objectives of the 2021 budget is to strengthen fiscal sustainability through increased efficiency in spending, improved revenue mobilization and debt sustainability.

Hon Okoh explained further that the passed budget will help to improve processes and systems in public financial management, monitoring and evaluation for better service delivery.

According to him, budget heads geared towards increased opportunities for youths, women and unemployed graduates under various jobs and wealth creation program of the state government were also captured.

The Lawmaker stated that the outbreak of corona virus affected the implementation of the 2020 budget and expressed optimism that 2021 fiscal year will achieve better productivity .

Hon Okoh who represents Ika South, explained that the one point six increase of the budget from the amount presented to the House by the governor covers both capital and recurrent expenditures.

He said besides, funding on going projects not captured by the Economic Planning, some ministries have a lot to do and needed funds to execute their plans.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori had at plenary commended the committee as well as members of the State Assembly for their contribution towards the speedy passage of the bill.

The Speaker also thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his ingenuity in putting the state on the part of economic recovery in spite of the Covid 19, pandemic.

The total budget for the services of the state in the 2021 fiscal year as passed by the House is three hundred and eighty three point Ninety Five billion naira.
